The wicking performance of Nitrocellulose membranes is affected by the manufacturing process and the environmental conditions. The vapour-induced phase separation (VIPS) and non-solvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) process chambers at UMBTR did not have sensors to measure the thickness of the membrane, the rotation speed of the roller, humidity and temperature.
Our Solution
The solution of “Membrane” revolves around developing a sensor array with various communication protocols and connected to a data logger on a PCA. It allows a user to come up with an NC membrane manufacturing receipt for a given flow rate within 5 minutes.
